This headquarters staff reenactor organization has a history that goes back more than twenty years. The legacy organization to the AOP is the First Federal Headquarters Division under the command of Major General Dave Valuska. Command transitioned to Major General Allen Baldwin in 2007. General Baldwin transformed the 1st Fed. Div. into the Army of the Potomac - Middle Division (AoP) in 2012 with the cooperation of Birney's Division and the Federal Volunteer Brigade. General Baldwin led the AoP as overall military commander at notable events such at the 150th Anniversary Commemoration of the Battle of Gettysburg.  AoP incorporated in the State of Virginia as Army of the Potomac Eastern Theatre 1861 - 1865 in March 2016 and became an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2017. General Baldwin transitioned command of AoP to Major General Brian Withrow at Cedar Creek in October 2016.
